So I love Hasbro & Lauren Faust's
'My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic' - and I also love leathercrafting! I decided to 'design' my own leathercraft pony mascot. (Don't think about it too much, tho, or it will creep you out ^^)
The drawing in the corner wasn't done by me; I used a template based on HUB's "My Little Pony Friendship is Magic: Adventures in Ponyville"
online game. I used Photoshop to combine different elements, choose my own colors, and draw the 'cutie mark.'
Leathercraft Pony is made from suede, so she has a nice cuddly texture. She is sewn together with a baseball stitch except for her feet, which use a more traditional leathercraft stitch. (I can't sew regular fabric to save my life)
Her mane/tail is wool felting yarn, aka 'pencil yarn' which I needle-felted. This was my very first attempt at needle-felting, but I think it turned out pretty decent. Still, I might use raw wool roving and revisit her mane sometime in the future.
Her eyes & her cutie mark were done with a mixture of Sharpie oil-based Paint Pens & regular Bic markers. The cutie mark consists of an awl and a round knife - icons of traditional leathercrafting.
Leathercraft Pony had the honor of appearing in the 4/11/11 edition of the Equestria Daily!
Edited 4/15/11 to include the proper reference information.
